There’s a reason you see so many advertisements for self-styled miracle cures for acne and acne scars: there’s no good solution that you can buy in a drug store. So why waste your time and money?
The first problem in treating acne is that different types of acne demand different treatment. Cystic acne is much different from acne due to the accumulation of dead, dry skin. Acne due to excess oil production demands a different approach from acne that’s caused by an underlying skin infection. Yet most acne treatments are one size fits all. This means that they won’t work for many people. That leaves you to go back to the drawing board, spending more money on the next treatment that may fail.
Even when something does work, almost acne treatment rely on harsh chemicals. Many are unsafe to use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Others can leave your skin dry and peeling. So while the acne might clear up, your skin certainly won’t look good.
The world of acne scar treatment is even more confusing and frustrating. Creams and potions are unlikely to treat scars, particularly those that leave deep craters on your face, or that are the result of acne from years ago. Some of the most popular acne scar treatments, such as vitamin E, may actually increase the risk of lasting scars.
Trial and error cost money. You can easily spend thousands of dollars over several months, all on treatments that don’t work or that even make your skin worse. You deserve better.
